Wi-Fi, where is the future going?

2019-11-05

From the initial supplement of wired networks, to the gradual replacement of wired networks, and to the current competition with carrier networks, wireless networks have been advancing with the times.

At present, the competition between operators and Wi-Fi has been pushed to the forefront. The topic of "Wi-Fi will be eliminated" and "Wi-Fi will be replaced by 5G" will appear in front of everyone. However, according to a recent study from Juniper Research, the Wi-Fi network will carry 60% of smartphone and tablet data traffic worldwide by 2019.

In the face of uneven evaluation and prediction, we will objectively analyze where the next step of the wireless network will go.

Trend 1. Online experience is the foundation

At present, some enterprises are not willing to turn the office network from wired to wireless. One of the biggest concerns is delay and packet loss, such as disconnection of browsing pages, video voices, loss of control of artificial intelligence, and data loss etc.…

As can be seen from the current features of Wi-Fi6, wireless networks still focus on high throughput performance, high concurrency, low latency, low power consumption; Wi-Fi6 upgrade or introduction of OFDMA, 1024QAM, BSS coloring and other technologies, the main goal is to improve the real experience of the user.

Trend 2. Wireless security is increasingly important

Based on the openness of wireless, the security of wireless networks has always been the focus of attention, such as anti-password cracking, anti-air catching, anti-phishing Wi-Fi and so on. Next generation wireless network security mainly includes three aspects: access terminal security, online authentication security, and data transmission security.

First, ensuring the security of accessing enterprise wireless network terminal equipment will be the first challenge facing wireless network security in the future. In order to ensure the security of the access terminal, it is the key to protect the terminal and the wired edge of the internal network. Secondly, the security and convenience of Internet authentication has always been difficult to achieve. A good online experience means that there is no complicated security authentication; however, to ensure network security, the user experience may be sacrificed. Therefore, a convenient and secure online authentication method will become the trend of wireless network authentication in the future. Thirdly wireless uses open air as the transmission medium, so encryption is usually required to ensure the security of wireless transmission of data. At the same time, the radio frequency is also vulnerable to attack. The attacker counterfeits the AP to transmit the same or similar Wi-Fi signal to the user to induce the user connection, thereby obtaining the user account information. Therefore, the wireless network must be equipped with perfect radio frequency security protection.

Trend 3. Innovative business and Wi-Fi

In recent years, artificial intelligence has gradually entered the reality of people's lives from science fiction. A variety of applications in the AI era have also placed different demands on the network. The combination of Wi-Fi technology and future applications gives everyone ample imagination (such as the combination of emerging applications such as Wi-Fi technology and artificial intelligence), Wi -Fi will no longer just be connected, but will focus on technological innovation and carry more technology applications.

In the future, there will be more and wider scenarios using enterprise-class wireless for efficient communication, and wireless will continue to move forward with technological innovation. More potential of wireless is still being explored, and it will work with 5G to create a better network environment and support more business development and innovation.
